Medicare Supplement Insurance
Original Medicare leaves gaps—deductibles, copays, and coinsurance—that you pay out of pocket. A Medicare Supplement policy, often called Medigap, is designed to step in and cover many of those leftover expenses so your share stays predictable.

So how does Medicare Supplement Insurance Work?
Medicare pays first. For a covered service, Medicare settles its portion—usually the government-approved amount, which can be lower than the provider’s bill.
Your Medigap plan pays next. The supplement then picks up its share of the remaining cost, depending on the lettered plan you selected.
You handle any leftover balance. If anything is still unpaid after those two steps, you pay only that remnant.
Best Time to Enroll
Your one-time Medigap Open Enrollment Period starts the first month you’re 65 or older and enrolled in Medicare Part B, and lasts six months. During this window you can buy any standardized plan available in your state without medical underwriting.
How Much Is Medicare Supplement Insurance?
Premiums differ by:
Plan letter (A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N)
How the insurer sets rates (community-rated, issue-age, or attained-age)
Your age, location, and—sometimes—tobacco status
We’ll compare carriers side-by-side so you can balance budget with benefits.
Picking the Right Plan
Every standardized letter plan offers a distinct mix of benefits. For example:
Plan | Notable Coverage Highlights* |
---|---|
F† | Covers nearly all gaps (deductibles, copays, coinsurance) |
G | Similar to F but you pay the Part B deductible |
N | Lower premiums; small copays for some office and ER visits |
*Benefits are set by federal law and identical across insurers.
†Plan F is only available if your Medicare Part A began before 1/1/2020.
Our licensed agents will walk you through each option, but the final choice is always yours.
Does Using an Agent Increase My Cost?
No. Working with our agency is free to you—premiums are the same whether you enroll on your own or with our help.
Choosing an Insurance Company
We’ll review:
Financial strength and rate-increase history
Customer service reputation
Extra member perks (telehealth, discounts, etc.)
Then we’ll handle the paperwork so enrollment is quick and hassle-free.
